Mission
The mission of the S.H. Cowell Foundation is to improve the quality of life of children living in poverty in Northern and Central California by providing support that strengthens families and communities.

Vision
We envision towns and neighborhoods across Northern and Central California where people across all sectors - residents, public and non-profit service providers, educators and civic
leaders - strive together to build and sustain strong communities that support low-income children and their families and expand their life opportunities.

Values

Six values infuse the Foundation's vision and mission. The Foundation's Board and staff's efforts are:

  • Grounded in rigor — We have high expectations for ourselves and our grantees, holding everyone accountable in an atmosphere of inquiry and discipline
  • Direct —We are explicit about our intentions and results and expect the same of our grantees .
  • Inclusive —We seek appropriate solutions and shared responsibility among a broad group of community leaders .
  • Build on connections — We endeavor to develop strong and lasting relationships with partners and encourage strong partnerships among community stakeholders, including residents.
  • Supportive of grantee leadership — We encourage personal and professional growth by offering on-going leadership development opportunities.
  • Founded on knowledge — We take the time to explore and understand the communities we serve as well as develop expertise in program areas.
