The S.H. Cowell Foundation works to improve the quality of life of children living in poverty in Northern and Central California by providing grants to strengthen families and communities.
The Foundation was established in 1956 through a $12.5 million bequest from S.H. Cowell. In the half-century since, Cowell has made more than $246 million in grants to 2,017 organizations.
| In 2009, we paid $7.2 million in grants to nonprofits and public schools that serve poor children, youth and their families. We focus on five complementary program areas: Family Resource Centers, K-12 Public Education, Youth Development, Affordable Housing, and Responsive grantmaking. |
